Our Heritage

It all began during the First World War; Walter Craven, who ran a confectioners and bred Bull Dogs,  was given the role of Fire Marshal after all the younger men had left Liverpool to serve King and Country.

As the war raged on trains would bring home those soldiers who had perished in battle; Walter saw that not all of the bodies were claimed and took it upon himself to collect and bury those dead soldiers whose families had left the city or could not be contacted. For several years this unpaid and voluntary task kept Walter much busier than being a Fire Marshal did, and by the early 1920's he was being asked to arrange burials for Liverpudlians other than those coming home from war. In 1925 he accepted that he was had inadvertently become an Undertaker and set himself up in business as such. In due course his son Desmond joined him, followed by his grandson Derek and then his great-grandson Charles who joined the firm full-time in 1993.

And the journey continues...
